Information from Ellesmere Port …
The night of the judging was quite a watershed moment. The cancellation of the Photography show marked the beginning of the seriousness of the current situation. I think we were lucky that Margaret Salisbury turned out to judge and I think that would would have been the last meeting for many clubs.

I tried to make notes about her comments for the clubs who couldn’t attend. Margaret is very direct in her critique…..the marks are out of 10.

-Venetian Blinds. Quite clever and effective. Score 6
-Under the Matrix. The top is too heavy, but I (Margaret) still like it. It’s a brilliant picture. I love the red going out. Score 9
-Local woodland . The exposure looks wrong. It’s a good shot and would have got 10 except for the burnout. Score 8
-Lone yacht . Bloody ridiculous. So stupid . Have to give credit for being so brave. Maybe a vignette. (She really liked it) score 9
-Morris moves. Good try. The bottom third is brilliant. My eyes are drawn to the white stripes and white highlights. Score 6
-Sharp railings. Love the top. Not keen on bottom. Good effort score 7

Margaret scored all the images then went back and critiqued the order in which they were placed in the panels and commented that this can make a difference in the overall score. My notes, now 2 weeks old, say ” the strong one spoils the order. It should have gone in the middle.” Sadly, I can’t recall which one she meant, but think it was the Morris Moves. Your score for the panel was 6.

Your finishing position was joint sixth with us. ( Neither of us was last)
