F&DPS Exhibition at the Catalyst Museum, Widnes

Our exhibition at the Catalyst Museum begins on the 2nd June and runs for four weeks (closed on Mondays). Vince and his team have put a lot of effort into this so please come along and have a look. Access is free, just ask at the desk.

The aim of the exhibition is to show the change from the boroughs past history arising from the Industrial Revolution to the usage of today through archive and contemporary photographs.

Five distinct areas were chosen for the project: West Bank docks and Spike Island in Widnes, The Bridges over the river Mersey together with the Bridgewater and the Manchester Ship canals in Runcorn. FDPS members went out and took photographs in these areas during 2024 & 2025

We were kindly given access to the Catalyst Museum’s archived photographs and spent a considerable amount of time assessing the photographs and eventually chose four from each area that we could take or had taken photographs from almost the same viewpoint. On display at the Museum are twenty A2 photographs from FDPS members for comparison with twenty A4 archived reprinted photographs from the museum. (As an illustration the image shown on the leftis a photograph taken in 2024 with an archived image in the bottom left for comparison).

Obviously far more than twenty photographs were taken by members so there is also a digital display running continuously in the museum with a larger selection of images from FDPS members

We are looking for volunteers to man the exhibition, if you can spare an hour or two, especially at a weekend, please get in contact with Vince chair@frodhsham.photos
