Summer Event Calendar

In the past our season ends with the AGM before we start the new season in September. This year we have created a series of less formal events over the summer period to maintain some momentum.

Each event has been organised by a club member, some require a payment but the majority are free of charge.

Please read the information carefully as each event is different. Additional details will appear as the event details get firmed up so please make sure that the organiser knows you are interested in attending so they can keep you updated.

Here is a list of the events planned so far:

The annual Castle Park ‘Picnic in the Park’ event will be held on Sunday 3rd July. As well as plenty of stalls and opportunities for street photography, club members has been the semi-official photographers for the Downhill Run for the last few years. This starts at the top of Frodsham Hill and we cover the warm up in the park, the start and the finish aiming to get a picture for each competitor. Last year Ian covered the start and Andrew covered the finish and made an online gallery for competitors to download their images.

More details on how to take part will be provided nearer the time.

Summer Event – Visit to Manchester Victoria Baths @ Manchester Victoria Baths

We are planning a visit to the historic Manchester Victoria Baths

When Manchester City Council decided it had to close Victoria Baths in 1993, there was a vigorous reaction in the local community.  Manchester residents greatly valued the Turkish baths, the Aeratone, the swimming facilities, and the building itself.

The campaign to try and prevent closure of the Baths became the Friends of Victoria Baths and a charitable trust – the Victoria Baths Trust – was set up with the aim of fully restoring the building and bringing the Turkish Baths and at least one of the swimming pools back into public use.

Our story has many ups and downs, including the amazing success on BBC’s Restoration series in 2003.

Now the building is partially restored VBT continues to work towards full restoration. The building has many interesting details from the bespoke tiling to the beautiful stained glass windows. We will have a short introductory talk after which you will be free to explore this fascination building.

There is now a form on EventBrite for you to book your place and make payment. There are two options.:

1/Entry fee only £10
2/ Entry fee plus a sandwich lunch with tea or coffee £15

Although the event is not until August please enter as soon as you can as we have to confirm numbers and food orders some time before the event.
