After being cancelled last year the Tour of Britain returns this year. Two stages are within reasonable travelling distance.  The race attracts world class riders such as Mark Cavendish and Wout van Aert fresh from the Tour de France.

Stage 4 on Wed 8th Sept. start in mid Wales but the finish is on top of the Great Orme climbing the 20% gradient alongside the tram track at around 4pm. This should offer some great photo. opportunities but is likely to be very busy so you would need to arrive really early to get a good spot.

Stage 5 on Thu 9th Sept. is entirely within Cheshire. It start at Alderley Park (the ex Astra Zenica site) and loops around taking in some climbs above Macclesfield before finishing outside the Town Hall in Warrington at around 3:20pm . Again the start and finish will be very busy but there are plenty of other spots and the nature of the route means it may be possible to visit a couple of locations.

I (Andrew Williams) will be working out a good place to watch and will post something when I’ve decided in case anyone wants to join me.

All the details of the route and timings are available on the Tour of Britain website here.

In particular, take a look at the following official spectator guides:
